Research has always played and continues to play a strategic role in Lavipharm's growth.

In the mid- 80's Lavipharm, with a great vision beyond national borders, established its first Research & Development Department in its facilities in Greece. Lavipharm specializes in pharmaceutical technology, especially in new forms of drug delivery systems.

Lavipharm welcomes the 90s by expanding its research activities beyond Greece by investing abroad, an all-time fact for a Greek company, especially in the difficult but also enchanting area of modern pharmaceutical science. A strong research team with equipment for pilot production was set up in New Jersey, the heart of pharmaceutical technology in the USA.

In order to achieve optimum results Lavipharm co-operates with established scientific institutions in Greece and the USA. In 1996 the first transdermal nitro-glycerine patch was developed for the treatment of angina pectoris. In 1997 the second epidermal patch was developed, this time a cosmetic patch for the treatment of adolescent facial acne and blemishes.

In the year 2000 the Group inaugurated a new research facility near Princeton University in New Jersey - a strategic and advantageous location in which the company has direct access to the most distinguished scientists and the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, while the same year it starts to develop in the Super Critical Fluid (SCF) area.

Nowadays, Lavipharm is focused on pioneer technologies of particle design, drug delivery systems, cosmetic delivery systems, as well as on the development of natural products, always striving to provide an essential contribution of improvement of already existing ones.

This can be accomplished by a) continuing to develop pharmaceutical products containing new drugs that might otherwise have been abandoned because of solubility or other drug delivery problems and b) modifying existing drugs in order to improve their pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic profiles and thus, extend their patent coverage duration as well as increase their competitive position, leading to the extension of the drug's life cycle.

Moreover, Lavipharm develops technologies that are focused on creating stable formulation of small molecules, proteins and peptides.
